CAMBIO CLIM\u00c1TICO O EL APOCALIPSIS<\/p>\n

Esta encrucijada, por llamarle de alguna manera, parecer\u00eda una trama de la peor o m\u00e1s cruda pel\u00edcula de terror, sin embargo la realidad nos ubica consternados: los l\u00edderes de los pa\u00edses ricos prefieren los negocios inmediatos al cambio clim\u00e1tico, que de no implementarse podr\u00eda, con seguridad, convertirse en el apocalipsis de este nuestro planeta tierra.<\/p>\n

Ante el fracaso de los pa\u00edses del Grupo de los 20, el G20, lo m\u00e1s ricos del mundo, que no lograron alcanzar un acuerdo para intentar limitar el calentamiento global a 1,5 grados, vino el llamado apremiante del Secretario General del de la Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas, ONU, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, quien despu\u00e9s de asegurar, no obstante desconsolado, que sin el liderazgo de este grupo no ser\u00e1 posible lograr el objetivo, defini\u00f3 la posici\u00f3n del organismo internacional.<\/p>\n

El l\u00edder mundial, no se anduvo con rodeos, directo exigi\u00f3 a los pa\u00edses del G20 m\u00e1s ambici\u00f3n en la lucha contra el cambio clim\u00e1tico. \u201cEl mundo necesita urgentemente un compromiso claro e inequ\u00edvoco con el objetivo de 1,5 grados del Acuerdo de Par\u00eds por parte de todas las naciones del G20\u201d, dijo Ant\u00f3nio Guterres despu\u00e9s de que el grupo de las naciones m\u00e1s industrializadas no lograra un acuerdo en este sentido durante su reuni\u00f3n ministerial sobre Medio Ambiente, Clima y Energ\u00eda.<\/p>\n

El responsable de la ONU record\u00f3 que para lograr el \u201cobjetivo ambicioso, pero alcanzable\u201d, el mundo debe lograr la neutralidad del carbono antes de 2050 y reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero en un 45% de aqu\u00ed a 2030 respecto a los niveles de 2010. \u201cPero estamos muy desviados de ese camino\u201d, advirti\u00f3.<\/p>\n

La realidad es que a menos de 100 d\u00edas de la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Clima, COP 26, una reuni\u00f3n fundamental que se celebrar\u00e1 en Glasgow, Escocia, a finales de octubre, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres inst\u00f3 a todos los l\u00edderes del G20 y de otros pa\u00edses a presentar planes clim\u00e1ticos nacionales m\u00e1s ambiciosos y a poner en marcha pol\u00edticas y acciones concretas.<\/p>\n

Entre ellas, no utilizar m\u00e1s carb\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de 2021, eliminar progresivamente las subvenciones a los combustibles f\u00f3siles y acordar un precio m\u00ednimo internacional del carbono, tal y como propone el Fondo Monetario Internacional, FMI.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl G7 y otros pa\u00edses desarrollados tambi\u00e9n deben cumplir con un paquete de solidaridad cre\u00edble de apoyo a los pa\u00edses en desarrollo, incluyendo el cumplimiento del objetivo de 100.000 millones de d\u00f3lares, el aumento de la adaptaci\u00f3n y el apoyo a la resiliencia a por lo menos el 50% de la financiaci\u00f3n total del clima y conseguir que los bancos de desarrollo p\u00fablicos y multilaterales alineen significativamente sus carteras clim\u00e1ticas para satisfacer las necesidades de los pa\u00edses en desarrollo\u201d, destac\u00f3.<\/p>\n

El Secretario General dijo que tiene la intenci\u00f3n de aprovechar la oportunidad de la pr\u00f3xima sesi\u00f3n de alto nivel de la Asamblea General de la ONU para reunir a los l\u00edderes y llegar a un entendimiento sobre estos elementos cr\u00edticos del \u201cpaquete\u201d necesario para Glasgow.<\/p>\n

La disyuntiva est\u00e1 en el aire de todo el orbe: o los pa\u00edses ricos en forma responsable le entran al llamado del l\u00edder mundial Antonio Gut\u00e9rrez o propiciar\u00e1n el Apocalipsis.<\/p>\n

Such crossroads, to call it somehow, would seem like a plot from the worst or crudest horror movie, however reality places us in dismay: the leaders of rich countries prefer immediate business to climate change, which if not implemented could, for sure, become the apocalypse of our planet earth.<\/p>\n

Faced with the failure of the countries of the Group of 20; the G20, the richest in the world, which failed to reach an agreement to try to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, came the urgent call from the Secretary General of the Organization of the United Nations, UN, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, who after assuring, however disconsolate, that without the leadership of this group it will not be possible to achieve the objective, defined the position of the international organization.<\/p>\n

The world leader, did not beat around the bush, directly demanded more ambition from the G20 countries in the fight against climate change. \u00abThe world urgently needs a clear and unequivocal commitment to the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Agreement by all G20 nations,\u00bb said Ant\u00f3nio Guterres after the group of the most industrialized nations failed to reach an agreement on this sense during its ministerial meeting on Environment, Climate and Energy.<\/p>\n

The UN official recalled that to achieve the \u00abambitious but achievable goal\u00bb, the world must achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% between now and 2030 compared to levels 2010 \u00abBut we are very deviated from that path,\u00bb he warned.<\/p>\n

The reality is that less than 100 days before the United Nations Climate Conference, COP 26, a pivotal meeting to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, at the end of October, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres urged all the leaders of the G20 and other countries to present more ambitious national climate plans and to implement concrete policies and actions.<\/p>\n

Among them, not using more coal after 2021, gradually eliminating subsidies for fossil fuels and agreeing on an international minimum price for carbon, as proposed by the International Monetary Fund, IMF.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe G7 and other developed countries must also deliver on a credible solidarity package of support to developing countries, including meeting the $ 100 billion target, increasing adaptation and supporting resilience to at least 50% of total climate finance and get public and multilateral development banks to meaningfully align their climate portfolios to meet the needs of developing countries, \u201dhe stressed.<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General said that he intends to seize the opportunity of the next high-level session of the UN General Assembly to bring together leaders and come to an understanding on these critical elements of the necessary \u201cpackage\u201d for Glasgow.<\/p>\n
