JOE BIDEN, READY TO TAKE OFFICE IN THE UNITED STATES
* In an unprecedented ceremony, due to the pandemic and the threats of sabotage by the ‘trumpists’
By SFAS / Washington, DC.- Security threats after the attack on the Capitol, the heart of American democracy, large deployments of the National Guard from different states, strong restrictions on public attendance and an outgoing president who will not attend the inauguration ceremony, mark an unprecedented presidential inauguration in the United States, of Democrat Joe Biden.
The world will be watching for the inauguration of Biden as President of the United States and Kamala Harris as Vice President. Biden will make number 46 on the succession list and the fact that he is the one who succeeds Donald Trump is what makes the ceremony in which he will swear the Constitution of the United States as president will be the most special and surely the most followed of the last decades. It’s been two months since Biden defeated Trump in the highest turnout elections in US history of the last half century.
If in the 2016 elections Hillary Clinton surpassed Trump in popular vote but lost in electoral votes, according to the peculiar electoral system of the United States, in 2020 Biden defeated Trump in both aspects (81 million to 74 and 306-232). However, since then what had been a contentious presidency turned into a turbulent post-election period, which this morning ended with the departure of Donald Trump from the White House.
